In a shocking crime reminiscent of the Shraddha Walker case, Mukti Ranjan Roy allegedly killed 26-year-old Mahalakshmi in a fit of rage, cut her corpse into 59 pieces, and kept the remains in a refrigerator for 18 days The gruesome crime took place in Bengaluru where Roy later fled to Odisha and Died by suicide, leaving a shocking confession in a letter.

Mahalakshmi and Roy had a tumultuous six-month relationship, with frequent arguments and physical altercations that police sources say were well known to neighbors and often spilled out onto the streets outside her Vyalikawal residence. Despite filing a complaint with the Maleswaram police station, nothing was done formally as the couple used to settle their issues.

On the night of September 3, marriage was heatedly debated. Separated from her husband Hemanta for a year, Mahalaxmi kept pressuring Rai to marry her. Roy, suspicious of his earlier work, refused. The argument turns deadly, and in a fit of rage, Roy kills Her. He lay beside her body overnight, then cut it up with scissors the next day and stored the pieces in the refrigerator.

The remains went unnoticed for 18 days until neighbors reported a foul odor. On September 21, Mahalakshmi’s mother and sister found her mutilated body in the freezer infested with maggots. A suitcase nearby indicated that Roy planned to hide it again.

Roy fled but later hanged himself in Bhadrak, Odisha. His suicide note detailed the murder, saying he acted in a fit of rage after a heated argument.
